Micro Point Stimulation (MPS) for Scars, Vagus Nerve and Pain
MPS therapy uses the Dolphin Neurostim to apply micro-current impulses to specific treatment points.
Scar Release therapy (SRT) is a technique that involves applying micro-current around the scar to release fascia and muscles. This can restore movement and decrease pain associated with surgical scars.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation uses micro-current to influence the vagus nerve. This will help restore immunity, decrease inflammation and calm the stress response.
Pain can be treated with MPS by relaxing muscles, calming the nervous system, and to release endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. MPS therapy is effective for treating many chronic and acute soft-tissue pain conditions as well as concussion.
Theresa MacLean is happy to announce the addition of Somatic Experiencing to her naturopathic practice. Imagine allowing yourself to stay present and grounded during a stressful conversation or event. Imagine being able to think clearly and not react automatically solely based on emotion. Imagine being able to make the best choice towards resolving a stressful situation. Imagine healing past trauma. With a well regulated nervous system this is possible. Somatic Experiencing will help you achieve this goal.
Somatic Experiencing was developed by Peter Levine when observing in nature that animals have a way of recovering from a stressful event by completing the “fight, flight and freeze response”. Doctor Levine realized that humans have this same capacity too. Somatic Experiencing teaches the nervous system how to reconcile stressful memories. The stressful experience is renegotiated in small increments that are very tolerable to the client. This is achieved by moving between a “pleasant healing state” and a state with tolerable amounts of stressful memory. Great care is taken by the practitioner to do this process in small doses or “titrations.”. These titrations are expanded as the clients capacity to deactivate the stress response is achieved. This makes it possible to work more comfortably with many people with varying degrees of trauma. The goal is to renegotiate a stress response in a safe and supportive way. This will help resolve past experiences and to increase the clients resilience to future stress.
Clinical Nutrition
Nutrition and the therapeutic use of foods is a cornerstone of naturopathic medicine. Food intolerances, deficiencies, dietary imbalances or nutritional excesses have been associated with many medical conditions. A naturopathic doctor is trained to understand the impact that your diet is having on your health. With appropriate dietary modification and nutritional supplements health concerns can be treated with fewer complications and side effects.
Botanical Medicine
Medicinal plants have been, and will continue to be a valuable part of health care. These plants and plant substances are highly effective and safe in the right dosage and when used correctly with other herbs and treatments. Herbs can be prepared in many forms – teas, tinctures or capsules. Naturopathic doctors are extensively trained in both the art and science of botanical medicine. Naturopathic doctors are currently the only health care providers in Canada to be regulated for the use of botanical medicine.
Homeopathic Medicine
This powerful system of medicine is more than 200 years old and is widely accepted in many countries. Homeopathic remedies are made from specific dilutions of plant, animal and mineral substances. When carefully matched to the patient they are able to affect the body’s “vital force” and to stimulate the body’s innate healing forces on both the physical and emotional levels, with few side effects. Some conditions that do not respond well to conventional medicine respond effectively to homeopathy
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a system of alternative medicine intended to relieve pain and tension by gentle manipulations of the skull regarded as harmonizing with a natural rhythm in the central nervous system.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Prevention and Lifestyle Counselling
Mental attitudes and emotional states are important elements in healing and disease. Addressing all aspects of a person’s life, identifying and addressing the impact that stress and life events have on a patient’s health is an important aspect of naturopathic treatment. Naturopathic doctors are trained to counsel on diet, lifestyle, specific stressors, exercise and occupational or environmental hazards as an integral part of the naturopathic treatment program.
